ImpelCARE – is a Rural Healthcare Delivery and Microinsurance app bringing health and financial stability to rural India. This hand-held-based tele-medicine and microinsurance application represents the frontier of rural healthcare delivery. ImpelCARE (the NASSCOM AppFAME winner) application is administered by Village Health Champions (VHCs) – women from local villages who are familiar with local customs and people. They have been trained to use its simple local-language interface, while doctors and clinicians use either an English version of the same thing or a deeper web-based SaaS equivalent. The hand-held device helps VHCs track patient info, provide primary healthcare, record vital statistics and deliver health-related products. The built-in Clinical Decision Support System delivers appropriate medical advice, prescriptions and, where it cannot, direction to invoke tele-medicine.
What we deliver
High quality Rural Health Care service at low affordable costs • Helps VHCs to track patient info • Provide primary healthcare • Record vital statistics and deliver health-related products. The built-in Clinical Decision Support System delivers appropriate medical advice, prescriptions and, where it cannot, direction to invoke tele-medicine. • The VHC can interact with a remote CARE doctor who can recommend treatment through an SMS prescription. The VHC also collects microinsurance premiums and records them on the hand-held terminal. • The online app, on the other hand, supports semi-urban clinic management, electronic medical records, clinical decision support configuration, insurance products and reporting on service delivery and costs.
Whom we deliver?
Care Foundation (NGO)
Why is the project unique?
• Local women as primary healthcare providers • Technology enables identification of health problems through decision pathways • SMS / GPRS integration to doctors in CARE Foundation clinics to provide additional services that the VHCs cannot provide • Ability to SMS prescriptions to device and print them out, so that patient has a printed record • Synchronization of all hand-held data to central servers enables actuarial calculations for micro-insurance providers
Mr. Narasimhan (Kishore) Mandyam, CEO of PK4 Software said “Critical illness in the family is one of the key contributors to rural poverty. With CARE Foundation and ImpelCARE, it’s now possible to deliver quality healthcare at the remotest village at a low cost. It’s truly a game changer and completely upends the way that rural outpatient care is provided.” Project Director Girish Babu pointed out that “The local language interface makes the app usable by village women with just a basic level of education.
