Description

Somewhere in… blog has since its launch in December 2005 established itself as an institution for bangla in the world blogosphere and an icon for bangla online. Its innovative approach has also made Bangladesh the #1 blog community country in the world. Somewhere in… blog was the first service making it possible to write bangla online, this in itself was a revolution. now, somewhere in… blog has more than 75000 members. Daily visits are around 20 000 with a staggering 2 lakh page views daily. Somewhere in… blog has turn into the richest and fastest moving bangla online media globally. with more than 400 000 blog posts and millions of comments, it is also the richest source of Bengali texts in cyberspace. Somewhere in… blog, with its vast blogger base and audience, is frequently proving to positively influence the society and build momentum around important issues highlighted.

What do we deliver?

somewhere in… blog deliver colourful moments of togetherness, discovery and achievement to our blog community! somewhere in… blog deliver the sound and pulse of the local community, live, as it happens by and for the people of bangladesh! somewhere in… blog delivers a unique and highly interactive online experience for readers and writers, blending citizen news, personal experiences, opinions on current issues and guidance to many topics less covered in other media. for talented writers, it delivers feedback and comments used to improve writing skills and develop the courage to publish their own books. during boi-mela 2011, more than 100 bloggers published their own books (more than 3% of the total new releases). somewhere in… blog deliver the scent of the flowering mango trees, the laughter of children playing with their kites and the roaring joy of festivals, connecting expat bangladeshis in 200 countries with their homeland.

Whom we deliver?

Somewhere in… blog is now reaching out to a vast part of the Bangla cyberspace due to its large traffic and community, way beyond the traditional audience of just bloggers. This blog community has for long also served as a citizen news site (being the first with the latest) and a forum site (due to highly interactive comments). Among the typical bloggers are people, freely characterized as: Journalists – finding unlimited freedom to write, finding leads to stories. Writers – testing out response to stories and carry out own research. Students – engage in current issue debates and mobilise for campaigns. Office workers – sharing colourful stories, teasing community into debate NGO workers – raising awareness campaigns, issues of interest Housewives – sharing short stories, gender issues, family issues, dreams. Virtual nicks – small groups of anonymous bloggers that collectively and through sharp analysis bring critical issues up to public debate. For each active blogger there are likely 5 active commenters and 15 passive readers.

How is the project unique?

somewhere in… blog was a revolution when it was released. never before had it been possible for non-technical persons to express themselves in bengali on the web. it was also unique as it was the first service that broke the local media monopoly to let anyone speak out and publish their thoughts online. somewhere in… blog is no longer very unique as our concept has been copied by most of the dozen or so existing bengali blog communities that has popped up inspired by our success over the years, something we highly appreciate as the joint bengali blogosphere reach out and introduce blogging to a wider audience. however, somewhere in… blog is highly unique as it is a part of a bigger social media platform (of somewhere in…), consisting of a central profile that maintains registrations and user authentications, an sms gateway for mobile2web and mobile2mobile interactivity, a microblog/social network service and an event calendar, all which allows login and sharing with the same user profile.

Roadmap

Internet is full of information in English of globally related issues, but have still a lack of locally relevant content. for the new generation of internet users, it is important that locally relevant content is available, and somewhere in… blog is the place where such content is produced at the fastest rate. after five years of doubling, the size and volume of somewhere in… blog has started to make a significant impact, also on development, contributing to a more open and knowledgeable mindset.
