Gaon ki awaaj
Description
Gaon Ki Awaaz uses mobile phone to record content as audio. The audio is transmitted as MMS to a local editor for checking. The approved MMS is converted into .WAV file and e-mailed to Netxcell, a Hyderabad IT company which uses an outbound dialer (OBD) to broadcast the MMS as voice calls to village subscribers. The voice calls are in Avadhi, the local dialect; the content is generated by two village reporters and is about happenings in and around the village.
What we deliver
Local news and information in the local language.
Whom we deliver
We are currently in Stage I of the Project where the news is being generated by village reporters and broadcast to villagers. In Stage II we will introduce interactivity by educating villagers to use toll free number to communicate information. This information, after vetting, will be broadcast back to the villagers.
Roadmap
The mobile phone is the best tool to provide health, education and public interest information to large masses of people who are illiterate, live in remote areas and so far had no way to access such information. It has the potential of reducing the urban-rural divide.
