Description

Champs21 is the pioneer of online education in Bangladesh for Bangla and English medium school students (Class 3–Class 10). It primarily offers a self-assessment test service to assess students own strengths and weaknesses in Mathematics and Science towards stronger academic foundation, allowing students to know their position among all peers country-wide. The interactive portal is a great tool for academic preparation allowing students to take test anytime, anywhere, at their own pace. An instant result with performance feedback and answer analysis is provided with a graphical presentation to both the students and their parents. Students can also brush up their co-curricular learning through free Bangla and English literature, art/ craft lessons, General Knowledge, IQ, and e-entertainment. Champs21 is geared towards helping the students of Bangladesh be at par with global education delivery, and preparing them for the future world with complete awareness of the self and unique cultural identity

What do we deliver?

The initiative primarily offers an online self-assessment service for students of Bangla and English medium for Mathematics and Science. The service broadly encompasses both academic and co-curricular learning. The academic part is primarily self-assessment tests and post-assessment learning through answer-explanations plus additional diagrams and audio-visual links outside the scope of the textbook. In the assessment part of the service, students will find MCQs from each chapter of their textbooks. Each chapter-based test has 20 questions and 3 takes, which can be taken by the students throughout the session/ year. Each term-final test has 40 questions in 3 phases. The question-bank is sizeable with 5170 and 2644 questions in Science and Maths (for English Medium), and 8406 and 4212 in Science and Maths (for Bangla Medium). The system informs a kid’s position among all the other students of their batch across all schools. Teachers can give assignments and home work through Champs21 and parents can monitor their children’s performance by notification emails and SMS. Self-learning and peer-to-peer learning is encouraged through Online Forum. Champs21 also enables students to brush up their co-curricular learning (indigenous stories, fables, comic strip, jokes, sudoku). Another area of focus is General Knowledge, IQ, and Current Affairs.

How is the project unique?

The project is one of its kind, as it provides the most comprehensive tool of self-learning through assessing one own aptitude. Firstly, the idea of true learning through personal evaluation practiced at as early level as Class-3 is very unique, especially if compared with the conventional Bangladeshi education system. Secondly, the website having a Bangla and English interface for Bangla and English medium students respectively makes the disparity in both education systems, tools and resources almost disappear. Thirdly, the service being the first Bangla e-learning portal of the world resonates uniquely with our language and cultural value system, and challenges the conventional hypothesis that internet is only for the English-savvy group. Fourthly, by offering a tool for comparison and interaction amongst the peer group country-wide, this service breaks the confinement of classroom and opens up a whole new world of virtual school where millions of bright minds are fighting for their niche. Finally and most importantly, the ubiquitous nature of the service powered by internet empowers a student from a less-fortunate background (less developed geographic location, lower exposure to good teachers) enough to share the same platform with a typical urban kid who is backed by more socio-economic support system.

Roadmap

Digital content for development is a concept built onto the philosophy of information, ideas, and connectivity being the most productive factors of production. It has several universal phenomena as its conceptual offshoots: increasing social mobility, trend in breaking down of geographic boundaries, shift from industrial assets to intellectual assets, global community based on sharing and constant connection, and mass democratization of knowledge and idea (which are now more valuable than oil and iron ores). Such phenomena is not confined by a society’s physical resources or historic pattern of productivity; rather the exponential societal growth enabled by digital content can bring back the balance of social resources and ensure even distribution across all socio-economic strata. For example, mobile phone connectivity at a mass level in Bangladesh has followed the same path of several human development outcomes (UNDP Country Report 2009): better distribution of economic resources, better price in both product and service market, better quality of life through social mobility, improving employment scenario, and more empowerment of women and the poor. Following the strong positive correlation between penetration of digital content and human development indices, we can conclude that a society wellbeing improve with enhanced access to ICT tools and technologies.
