Description

Simmortel Voice has delivered a novel mobile 2.0 service for Jago political party in India. This service provides a phone number to callers in India whereby they can leave a voice message on issues related to civic, governance or political concerns. The service is live on +91-40-44991111 Jago, is a rising political party in India, which wants to better connect with the masses and engage them on issues affecting their daily life. Using technology and a mobile 2.0 style of service they have managed to attract more than 20,000 calls in less than 1 month of operation. The caller leaves a voice message on a civic complaints such as power supply, traffic, cheating, illegal activities by making a phone call. The voice message is automatically converted to text and forwarded to agents, party workers or volunteers for this service. The agent is able to take action on the complaint by allocating it to the relevant department of local government or specialist volunteers. Right to Information (RTI) Act is used to file complaints by post and other measures are taken till the concern is resolved. On resolution, an SMS is sent to the caller, updating her of complaint status. Using the mobile phone, as opposed to internet, and using voice as a medium, as opposed to SMS or GPRS, has proved to be the right choice. Voice on mobile turns out to be the only medium on which the majority of Indians are comfortable. The problem of converting large amounts of spoken information into text, which is easier to parse, was solved by proprietary speech recognition technology developed at Simmortel for Indian languages.

What we deliver?

This service is a mobile 2.0 platform which engages citizens in reporting issues related to civic life.

Why is the project unique?

The project is first live demonstration of large vocabulary continuous speech recognition in Indian language in an of-line mode. Here speech recognition is not being used as an input device. Instead, it is being used in an of-line mode to convert spoken information into text. The technology has been developed for Indian languages and accents.
