Description

The Community Rudi No Radio Station (CRS) is located at Manipur Village, Sanand Taluka, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Listener Responses on Rudi No Radio programme broadcast to Ahmedabad-Vadodara area from All India Radio (AIR) motivated us to initiate Community Rudi No Radio Station (CRS). In April 2005, SEWA began its first community radio programme, entitled Rudi No Radio (Rudi’s Radio), a weekly 15-minute programme produced and broadcast by employees of SEWA for a rural audience. In each episode, Rudiben is informally sitting and talking with local members of her village about things that affect them as women and as labourers. The programme is symbolically named after our first member of SEWA who worked to spread our association’s wings to rural areas. The Rudi No Radio is broadcast on every Saturday from 8 to 8.15 pm to Ahmedabad-Vadodara area on All India Radio (AIR). The success Rudi No Radio motivated us to launch the Community Rudi No Radio Station (CRS) on 26 November 2009. The Community Rudi No Radio Station (CRS) is broadcast on 90.4 Frequency and reaches 40 villages within 10 Kms radius from Manipur Village, Sanand Taluka, Ahmedabad.

The community residing in 40 villages within 10 Kms radius of Sanand Taluka.

How is the project unique?
Radio is an ideal medium of communication for our country. The radio station is the voice of villagers and women. The Community Rudi No Radio Station is run and managed by a team of community women. Our station revolves around community. The radio productions are done for the community people, by the community people.

Roadmap

We wish to see more Community Radio Stations which are run, managed and owned by the communities and they become self sustainable. We also hope towards subsidization on technology. Because radio as a medium of communication is low cost but the technology utilized to make Radio programmes is very costly. The increase of radius by the government will contribute and facilitate in the development of CRS. Our long term vision is to build community capacities with newer technologies. The Community Radio Station and the Community both strives towards progress, if they work hand in hand.
