Women play a critical role in the agriculture and allied sectors as producers and hence concentrated efforts need to be made to ensure that benefits of training and extension programmes reach them in proportion to their numbers. This project paves a way for women to receive scientific knowledge and know-how using radio broadcasts as a means. It has helped in developing a culture of listening and learning new things about agri-marketing, farming using natural manure protection of crops from rain and damp weather, rain water harvesting etc. The transmissions are also concerned with topics that can help improve the quality of life of the listeners including legal rights for women, non-formal education using distance learning methods, importance of vaccination, child-nutrition, personal hygiene etc.

  • Technology on various areas like computer, radio, IC, Recorder, amplifier etc. by staff of SMVEC and students

  • Entertainments in the form of folk songs, dramas, variety programmes, storytelling, standup comedy
  • Avoiding drunkenness among men
  • Care to be taken during pregnancy, adolescence care and hygiene during menstruation Source of information like newspaper, magazines, televisions and radios.
  • Involving representatives from among the women in the radio managerial aspects
  • Arranging recording process in villages as most of the woman are home makers
  • Awareness about epidemics, natural hazards, pre and post natal care, natural calamities, disaster management
  • Awareness about universe including the solar system with the help of internet facilities

How is the project unique?

1. The identification of Naricuravas ( a kind of tribal people) and conducting a medical camp for improving their health including 52 students of their own origin. 2. Without using any mobile van and electronic equipments for outside transmission, a programme on AIDS awareness was given in a village Kalitheerthalkuppam, only with the help of a cell phone and a car that came there, was given on air in a live manner. This was named as a magic in the presence of so many VIP’s having come from different states, by the director R. Sridhar, CEMCA. This is quite unique. 3. Programmes on child health and women literacy were given importance, because our Nila CRS in connection with our own medical college (SMVMCH) and engineering colleges run by Sri. Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust, consisting of the Founder and Chairman Thiru. N. Kesavan, the Managing Director Thiru M. Dhanasekaran and the Vice Chairman Thiru S.V. Sugumaran. This Nila CR team has been rightly directed to do his best in this regard by the versatile and dynamic Principal of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Dr. V.S.K. Venkatachalapathy. 4. Programmes on herbal medicine and plants are unique ones in their nature because of the involvement of the experts like Mr. Arumugam in our area.

Roadmap

Our broadcast is fully on the basis of digital technology and so digital content; it will completely bring positive improvement in all aspects among the people under its coverage. And then and there some of our people are involved in the process of broadcast and thereby they come to understand the various digital techniques related with the broadcast.
