These traffic communities have been created on SMS GupShup, via which traffic alerts are sent from the Police control room to the community members twice a day, every morning and evening. The city’s denizens are informed about any slow moving traffic, accidents, vehicle break downs, major diversions, rallies, processions etc. It is very easy for every person to subscribe to these mobile communities and is free of cost, except for the first SMS they send to join the group. SMSGupShup has found sponsors in the form of ICICI Lombard to take care of the messaging costs. There are already close to 1.5 Lakh people in these cities who get these daily alerts.
